Backstage Lead Developer

Location: Brussels
Work Regime: Full-time, with 2 days of on-site presence per week required.
Responsibilities:
- Support in the analysis, design, extension, and operation of the existing Backstage platform.
- Provide architectural consulting, plugin development, platform extensions, integrations, and comprehensive technical documentation.
- Develop technical concepts for the extension and adaptation of the platform.
- Design scalable, high-performance, and maintainable solutions in compliance with IT, architecture, security, and compliance standards.
- Analyze and consider security requirements, operating models, and target architectures.
- Formulate technical recommendations and decision-support documentation for future platform extensions and strategic evolution.
- Conduct comprehensive analysis of the architecture and platform.
- Assess existing technologies, interfaces, plugin structures, and integration mechanisms.
- Elicit project-specific and domain-specific requirements from organizational, functional, and technical perspectives.
- Consolidate and present analysis results to support architecture and design decisions.
- Design, develop, test, and document custom Backstage plugins (frontend and backend).
- Implement defined technical and business workflows and use cases.
- Integrate plugins with internal systems, services, and end-to-end process chains.
- Prepare clear and traceable technical documentation.
- Implement adaptations and extensions to the Backstage platform.
- Enhance frontend and backend components to support organizational structures, role models, and business processes.
- Ensure compliance with functional and non-functional requirements, including performance, stability, security, and maintainability.
- Design and implement technical improvements based on project outcomes and stakeholder requirements.
- Extend and configure the Backstage backend to support additional services and integrations.
- Integrate internal tools, APIs, CI/CD pipelines, identity management, and asset systems.
- Configure and document interfaces, authentication, and authorization mechanisms.
- Provide technical advisory services regarding integration patterns, security architectures, and operating models.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation.
Requirements:
- At least 2 years of proven experience in the design, customization, extension, and maintenance of Backstage.
- Demonstrated experience in the development and customization of Backstage plugins, including both frontend and backend plugins.
- At least 4 years of experience in developing backend services using Node.js, preferably in the context of platform or integration solutions.
- At least 3 years of experience in developing frontend applications using React.
- At least 1 year of experience in the design and implementation of CI/CD pipelines, preferably using Azure DevOps.
- Proven experience with Docker and Kubernetes, particularly in the operation and deployment of platform services.
- Experience with Azure or comparable cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP), especially in the context of cloud-native applications and platform services.
