Technical Analyst / System Analyst for Frontend Modernization

Location: Brussels – Hybrid

Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 3 months with possible extension

Languages: Dutch and English are mandatory, French is a plus

Project Context:

Our client is modernizing a business-critical application that has been in use for over 15 years. The backend redevelopment is currently underway, and the next phase involves modernizing the frontend layer, which currently consists of a Java Swing application, a web application, and a tablet application. The goal is to replace and modernize these frontends while preserving the essential business logic and operational workflows embedded in the current system. A requirements analysis is available, but part of the assignment will also involve understanding and extracting behavior from the existing application. Some functionality and business rules are embedded in the current system and may not be fully documented.

Your Role:

You will help translate both business requirements and existing system behavior into clear specifications that guide the development of the new frontend applications. You will:

• Analyze the current legacy frontends (including the Swing application) to understand and document existing behavior.
• Extract implicit business logic and hidden rules embedded in the current system.
• Identify dependencies, edge cases, and potential migration risks.
• Document current vs. target workflows and highlight behavioral differences.
• Define user flows, validation rules, and functional specifications.
• Write developer-ready user stories.
• Write acceptance criteria.
• Write automated acceptance tests, e.g., using Golden Master testing.
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, product owner(s), UX/UI designers, and development teams.
• Challenge and refine requirements based on technical feasibility and system constraints.
• Work in an iterative way, refining and detailing functionality together with the team.

Your work will serve as a bridge between business, UX, and development during the modernization of the frontend.

Your Profile:

We are looking for someone with a strong techno-functional mindset who can combine business understanding with technical insight. You:

• Have experience as a Technical Analyst, System Analyst, or senior techno-functional analyst.
• Are comfortable reading and understanding existing code to analyze system behavior.
• Have experience working on legacy modernization or migration projects.
• Know how to extract business logic from existing systems.
• Are able to identify hidden dependencies and embedded rules in legacy applications.
• Understand the technical constraints and trade-offs involved in migration projects.
• Communicate effectively with both technical and business stakeholders.

Nice to Have:

• Experience with frontend-heavy applications.
• Experience working with web and mobile/tablet interfaces.
• Experience with modern web architectures (SPA environments).
• Experience in Agile / iterative product development.

Working Setup:

Hybrid setup: On-site on Wednesday and Friday in Brussels, remote on the remaining days.
