Compliance & Controls Manager

Compliance & Controls Manager for a client in Antwerp region.

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: End of September, with the possibility of extension

Work Regime: Full-time with limited telework

Languages: English (Dutch is a plus)

Role Description:

We are looking for a seasoned Compliance & Controls Consultant to support the organization during a transitional period while a permanent hire is being recruited. The consultant will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and embedding operational and financial controls within the organization. The focus is on not only defining controls but also successfully implementing them in the business and ensuring that stakeholders understand, adopt, and execute them correctly. You will report directly to the CFO and work closely with the Control & Compliance Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess existing business processes and identify control gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Design clear, effective operational and financial controls aligned with best practices.
  • Implement controls within the organization and ensure they are practically executable.
  • Guide and coach business owners on executing controls correctly, understanding their importance, and the risks they mitigate.
  • Support the rollout of controls related to OPEX monitoring, operational governance, and risk and compliance processes.
  • Ensure controls are properly documented, operationally embedded, and executed on a recurring basis (e.g., monthly).
  • Track progress against control implementation timelines and deadlines.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including audit and compliance counterparts.
  • Actively contribute to building a sustainable control mindset within the organization.

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Proven hands-on experience in internal controls, risk management, and compliance frameworks.
  • Experience with implementing controls in real business environments, not just documenting them.
  • Ability to quickly understand new organizations, processes, and systems.
  • Comfortable operating in a setting with high change velocity and competing priorities.
  • Typically 3–5+ years of relevant experience (seniority outweighs years).
  • Strong background as a business controller, compliance consultant, or similar role.
  • Proven ability to design effective controls and translate theory into practice.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to explain risks, controls, and their impact in a clear, pragmatic, business-oriented way.
  • Hands-on, independent, and delivery-focused mindset.

Nice to Have Skills:

  • Experience within consulting environments.
  • Experience in large or complex organizations..
  • Previous exposure to fast-growing or newly established organizations.
  • Experience working in environments with shared services or matrix structures.
