Proxy Product Owner

General Description:

The Proxy Product Owner at the Data Office is responsible for blending data product vision with practical project management. This role is crucial in developing data-driven solutions in collaboration with product experts and data cells within business units. Key responsibilities include defining product strategy, managing the backlog, and prioritizing tasks in line with customer needs and strategic objectives, all while focusing on a clear product roadmap executed via Scrum methodologies. The role involves project leadership, overseeing project delivery, maintaining quality and timelines, and working with cross-functional teams. Strong change management skills, effective communication, risk management, and coordination with stakeholders are essential. The position is actively involved in transitioning from a SAS legacy platform to a modern Azure Databricks platform. The Proxy Product Owner will collaborate with Data Functional Analysts, Data Architects, and data engineers to migrate legacy ingestion jobs and support over 100 users in business units during this change. Knowledge of Data Privacy and GDPR is essential.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Serve as a Proxy Product Owner, making crucial decisions on analytical solutions and priorities in close collaboration with business units.
• Manage the product backlog and establish sprint goals for a feasible delivery plan.
• Work with the Scrum team to align solution development with the product roadmap.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams for timely delivery of product features, maintaining high quality.
• Define and communicate project goals and scope clearly to all stakeholders.
• Oversee data-driven projects, focusing on timely, quality delivery within project phases.
• Liaise with direct reports for resource planning and project milestone control.
• Provide regular project updates and transparently manage issues and risks.

Key Skills:

• Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, Business Management, or related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in product management, especially in data and analytics.
• Strong experience in Agile/Scrum practices and project management; able to lead complex projects.
• Experience in establishing a change management plan.
• Ability to translate business needs into technical requirements and product features.
• Ability to drive solution delivery from start to finish and work with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; capable of presenting to senior management.
• Knowledge of modern data & analytics technologies, including cloud platforms like MS Azure, is a plus.
• Basic understanding of MS SQL Server BI stack and MS Power BI.
• Knowledge of the SAS platform and SAS Enterprise Guide is a plus.
• Advanced communication skills, able to interact with senior management.
• High execution and mobilization capabilities.
