Functional Analyst for Front-End Team

For a client in Brussels we are seeking a Functional Analyst for the front-end team. This role is critical to our success, acting as the bridge between our business vision and our engineering team.

The Role:

As a Functional Analyst, you will be the keystone that connects business needs with technical execution. You will work closely with business stakeholders and solution designers to understand high-level goals and then dive deep to translate them into precise, actionable specifications for our developers. Your primary output will be detailed, unambiguous user stories that form the backbone of our development sprints. Your technical aptitude will be crucial, especially your ability to define and document API contracts, ensuring seamless communication between our frontend and backend systems. The type of activities are analysis, design, implementation, testing, high-level cost estimations, and execution of tasks.

What You'll Do:

• Collaborate with business units, IT project lead & Lead Analyst to gather, analyze, and document business requirements.
• Decompose complex business problems into clear, well-defined functional specifications and user stories.
• Author and maintain a backlog of detailed user stories, complete with comprehensive acceptance criteria, process flows, and supporting documentation.
• Define and document API endpoints and data contracts using the OpenAPI Specification, ensuring they are clear, consistent, and meet the needs of the frontend application.
• Act as the primary point of contact for the development team to clarify functional requirements and resolve ambiguities throughout the sprint.
• Ensure that non-functional requirements, such as performance, security, and accessibility, are considered and integrated into the specifications.
• Work with QA teams to set up test scenarios and validate that implemented features meet the acceptance criteria and business objectives.
• Champion best practices for requirements gathering and documentation within the agile framework.
• Keep the systems documentation up to date.
• Make detailed and consolidated reporting to stakeholders including your team leader and highlight attention points.

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience as a Functional Analyst, Technical Business Analyst, or a similar role in a technology-driven environment.
• Proven ability to translate complex business needs into detailed, developer-ready user stories and functional specifications.
• Strong, hands-on experience with API design and creating documentation using the OpenAPI Specification (Swagger).
• A solid technical background with the ability to understand system architecture, data models, and the fundamentals of web application development.
• Excellent analytical skills and an exceptional eye for detail.
• Superb communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate discussions between diverse groups of stakeholders.
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum development environment.

Nice-to-Haves:

• A strong understanding of web accessibility principles and standards (WCAG).
• Experience with frontend development, Design System, and design principles.
• Familiarity with modern frontend (React, Single Page Applications) and backend (Node.js, BFF) technologies.
• Knowledge of cloud concepts and platforms (Azure is a plus).
• Experience with agile project management tools like Jira and Confluence.
• Initiative-taking and a continuous learner with a growth mindset.
• Pragmatic, hands-on, and have a positive mindset.
