Oracle DBA

Job Purpose:

As an Oracle DBA, you will play a key role in enhancing the efficiency, performance, and cost-effectiveness of Oracle database environments, including ExaCC (Exadata Cloud@Customer), ZFS, and ZDLRA backup appliances. You will collaborate with development teams, infrastructure specialists, and project stakeholders to optimize resource usage, improve query performance, and support migration initiatives. Additionally, you will document processes, best practices, and architectural decisions to ensure knowledge retention and facilitate seamless onboarding. You will also mentor team members and transfer expertise on Oracle DBA practices, cross-platform optimizations (Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, Azure Synapse), and emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

• Performance & Resource Optimization:

  • Optimize Oracle database performance by applying best practices, including compression techniques to reduce storage and improve I/O efficiency, and query tuning to resolve performance bottlenecks in heavy workloads.
  • Guide Oracle developers on efficient SQL coding and indexing strategies.
  • Enhance ExaCC CPU efficiency by fine-tuning algorithms to dynamically adjust Oracle CPU allocations, maximizing the used/allocated ratio while minimizing waste.
  • Optimize backup and recovery processes for Oracle ZFS and ZDLRA appliances, ensuring cost-effective and reliable data protection.
  • Document performance tuning methodologies, configurations, and troubleshooting steps for future reference.
• Cross-Team Collaboration & Project Support:
  • Support teams in cost optimization by identifying and implementing database efficiency improvements (e.g., compression, query tuning).
  • Lead and contribute to key projects, including migration to Kerberos authentication for enhanced security and Oracle Client upgrades to ensure compatibility and performance.
  • Assist development teams in adopting best practices for database design, performance, and scalability.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation (runbooks, architecture diagrams, SOPs) for Oracle environments.
  • Conduct knowledge-sharing sessions (workshops, brown bags) to transfer expertise on Oracle DBA practices, cross-platform optimizations, and emerging trends.
• Multi-Platform Expertise (Bonus):
  • Leverage knowledge of Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, and Azure Synapse to provide insights and optimization recommendations in hybrid or multi-cloud environments.
  • Document cross-platform best practices and share lessons learned with the broader team.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Proven experience as an Oracle DBA, with expertise in performance tuning, compression, and resource optimization.

• Hands-on experience with ExaCC, ZFS, and ZDLRA is a strong plus.
• Strong SQL and PL/SQL skills, with the ability to analyze and optimize complex queries.
• Familiarity with Kerberos authentication and Oracle Client upgrades.
• Knowledge of Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, or Azure Synapse is advantageous.
• Experience in documenting technical processes and conducting knowledge transfer sessions.
• Problem-solving mindset with a focus on efficiency, cost reduction, and knowledge sharing.
• Excellent communication and mentoring skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Oracle certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional – DBA) are a plus.
