Senior Python Data Engineer

Location: Brussels

Work Regime: Full-time, 2 days per week on-site, 3 days remote

Project Duration: Start ASAP, until 31/12/2026 with the possibility of extension

Support the migration of legacy SAS-based ETL workloads to a modern Python-based data platform using technologies such as Parquet and Spark.
Contribute to the development of an AI-assisted, agent-driven migration factory.
Design, develop, and validate Python-based data transformation solutions.
Review and optimize AI-generated Python code to ensure quality, maintainability, performance, and operational robustness.
Support complex migration cases requiring refinement beyond automated generation.
Contribute to data quality, schema management, and Parquet optimization.
Support PySpark-based implementations where appropriate.
Act as a power user and contributor to the AI-assisted migration pipeline.
Improve interactions between agents responsible for various analyses and code generation.
Enhance workflow reliability, traceability, and throughput.
Improve human-in-the-loop validation mechanisms and feedback loops.
Identify opportunities to increase automation while maintaining quality and control.

5+ years of hands-on Python development.
Strong knowledge of Pandas, Polars, PyArrow, Parquet, and testing frameworks.
Experience with data engineering, ETL/ELT processes, data quality controls, and schema management.
Experience with PySpark is a strong asset.
Experience with AI-assisted software development (e.g., GitHub Copilot).
Experience with agentic workflows, multi-agent systems, agent harness engineering, workflow orchestration, and human-in-the-loop validation.
Experience with SAS or the ability to understand legacy SAS programs is a strong asset.
Understanding of DATA steps, PROC SQL, SAS macros, and ETL processing patterns.
Ability to collaborate effectively with SAS analysts and subject-matter experts during migration and validation activities.
