Senior Business Controller

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: End of 2026 (with possibility of extension)

Work Schedule: Full-time with maximum presence at the office; onsite days may vary weekly based on project needs.

Role Description:

We are looking for a senior Business Controlling professional to temporarily support and lead the Business Controlling team. The consultant will assume key responsibilities within the team, support the monthly closing and forecasting processes, and act as a hands-on sparring partner for both the team and the business. This role combines business controlling expertise, CapEx controlling knowledge, and people management. The consultant will ensure high-quality reporting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial steering, while supporting the further development and maturity of the Business Controlling team.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and support key activities within the Business Controlling team during the interim period.
• Guide the monthly closing process and support the analysis of actuals versus budget, including explaining and understanding variances.
• Support rolling forecasts by assessing monthly actuals versus expectations and determining whether forecasts for the rest of the year need to be adjusted.
• Perform financial analyses and provide recommendations to improve forecasting, reporting, and business insights.
• Support and steer CapEx project controlling from a business controlling perspective.
• Manage, coach, and support a small Business Controlling team of four people.
• Act as a sounding board for team members on analyses, interpretation of results, and financial logic.
• Collaborate closely with Finance, Accounting, and business stakeholders in a fast-paced and changing environment.
• Identify opportunities for improvement in current ways of working, reporting, and forecasting methodologies.

Requirements & Qualifications:

• Senior experience in business controlling, finance business partnering, or a comparable finance role.
• Minimum of around 8 years of relevant experience, combining business controlling expertise and people management exposure.
• Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, reporting, variance analysis, and performance management.
• Experience in leading, coaching, or supporting a team, ideally in a finance or business controlling context.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex financial data into clear insights and business actions.
• Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment where priorities can shift quickly.

Must-Have Skills:

• Strong business controlling expertise.
• Experience with monthly closing, budget versus actuals analysis, and variance explanations.
• Rolling forecasting and financial planning experience.
• People management, team coaching, or team coordination experience.
• Strong Excel and PowerPoint skills.
• Strong communication skills in Dutch and English.
• Ability to build trust quickly, understand team dynamics, and provide leadership in an interim context.
• Hands-on, analytical, and resilient mindset.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• Experience in infrastructure, CapEx-heavy, or asset-intensive environments.
• Specific experience with CapEx project controlling.
• Experience with ERP, BI, or planning tools supporting reporting and financial analysis.
• Experience in agile, complex, or rapidly changing organizations.
