Medior Functional Analysts

Location: Brussels

Start Date: Immediately

Duration: Two years, starting with the first assignment till the end of the year

Role Overview:

As a Medior Functional Analyst, you will translate procedures into clear, implementable specifications for development squads. You will ensure functional clarity, compliance alignment, and smooth delivery. You will bridge business requirements, regulatory constraints, and technical implementation, analyzing workflows, modeling domain behavior, and delivering specifications that guide frontend, backend, and integration teams. You will work autonomously within the established analysis framework, with guidance from senior analysts for complex cross-domain topics.

Key Responsibilities:

• Domain Modelling: Model formality behavior against standard contracts, shared base types, and state machines.
• Requirements Analysis: Elicit, analyze, and structure functional requirements.
• Specification Delivery: Produce clear user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules, story maps, and functional domain contracts.
• API & Data: Define and manage OpenAPI/AsyncAPI specifications; document data flows, edge cases, and compliance-relevant behavior.
• Stakeholder Engagement: Validate requirements with business experts (Dutch/English or French/English) and communicate domain concepts to technical teams in English.
• Delivery Support: Refine backlog, support developers/testers, clarify acceptance criteria, and validate delivered functionality.

Required Skills:

• Requirements functional decomposition
• Functional domain modeling (contract-driven services)
• Clear, testable specification writing
• Ability to read and reason about REST API contracts (OpenAPI)
• Dependency mapping across domains
• Facilitation, decision-making, and ambiguity resolution

Required Qualifications:

• 3–5 years as a functional/business analyst in software delivery
• Strong command of user stories, acceptance criteria, business rules
• Comfortable with REST API contracts and data models
• Proven experience translating processes into specifications
• Languages: Dutch + English or French + English (hard requirement)
• Experience in multi-stakeholder environments
• Autonomous, delivery-focused, comfortable in mission-critical environments

Nice to Have:

• AI-assisted analysis or specification-driven development
• Experience with distributed teams
• Data governance/master data management
• Domain-driven design familiarity
• GDPR/NIS2 awareness

Environment & Ways of Working:

• Agile/Scrum squads with architects, analysts, tech leads, UX/UI, and developers
• On-site Brussels: several days/week during ramp-up; then minimum 2 fixed days/week
• Delivery-focused mindset: align with decisions, escalate when needed, commit once agreed
• Drive specification quality: clarity, testability, compliance alignment
