Application Support System Engineer (Linux)

Location: Brussel

Onsite Presence: Required for 2 days per week

Service Description:

The IT-TI Data & App Support department is looking for an Application Support Engineer to join the Data and Application Support team. This team is responsible for deploying all in-house developed applications running in Acceptance & Production, and managing core shared applications and middleware to support those applications, such as Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, etc. The deployment environments have stringent security constraints, requiring knowledge of authentication, authorization, firewalls, and deep security. With more applications being deployed on Linux servers, the team is expanding its expertise to include both Windows and Linux deployment. Team members are also responsible for the validation and execution of Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP) and are involved in Business Continuity plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with day-to-day operational tasks, including deploying and updating in-house developed applications in acceptance and production environments (mostly Windows IIS & SQL based).
  • Assist with application server architecture for new application deployment: analyze requirements, assist in design, and setup/deploy applications in acceptance and production environments.
  • Contribute to and validate technical and infrastructure parts of DRP and BCP documents, and participate in their execution.
  • Interface with IT clients.
  • Provide second-line troubleshooting of issues.
  • Configure F5 load balancing VIPs for web applications.
  • Support implementations on core applications: RabbitMQ, Redis Cache, and other shared technologies.
  • Ensure optimal 2nd/3rd level support, interfacing with Microsoft and other third parties.
  • Maintain up-to-date operating and installation documentation.
  • Participate in the duty role (24/7, 1 in 6 weeks).

Technical Skills:

  • Proven recent experience in supporting applications on Linux RedHat (deploying applications, verifying logs, monitoring system health and performance, creating scripts).
  • Proven expert experience with Windows Server (2012-2022) with over 10 years of experience.
  • Proven knowledge of IIS management and website deployments.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell.
  • Knowledge of MS-SQL, MongoDB, RabbitMQ, NEO4J, or Redis Cache is a plus (on-the-job coaching/training will be provided for missing knowledge).
  • Understanding of firewalls and network load balancing concepts.
  • Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD pipelines.

Non-Technical Skills:

  • Team player, but able to work independently.
  • Analytical skills for troubleshooting.
  • Pragmatic and customer-minded.
  • Eager to learn new products or technologies.
  • Native French or Dutch speaker, able to speak and understand the other language; English is mandatory for documents and international meetings, German is a plus.
  • Must have a driver's license and a mobile phone.

Additional Information:

  • Work regime: 100%
  • Must be available for duty role (24/7, 1 in 6 weeks)
  • Must have a driver's license and car (required for the duty role) and mobile phone.
  • Standby duties will be scheduled and agreed upon beforehand. During standby, the consultant must remain reachable and ready to respond if needed, using their company laptop. If necessary, the consultant will return to the site during the standby period to perform interventions.

  • Must hold a valid residence permit confirming the right of residence in Belgium.
