Service Description:

The Transmission System Operator (TSO) is responsible for conducting several security of supply studies, vision studies, and cost-benefit analyses of future grid projects. These studies utilize economic dispatch tools to evaluate the need for additional generation capacity and the economic outputs or system margins available for every hour of the year. The consultant will support the 'SMA – Scenarios, Market & Adequacy analysis' department in performing tasks related to Electricity Market Modelling within the Flexibility Needs Assessment.

Responsibilities:

• Perform RES integration assessment using economic dispatch results to analyze RES curtailment and residual load time series statistics.
• Conduct ramping needs assessment by analyzing residual load time series hourly ramps and the ability of relevant technologies to manage these ramps.
• Support short-term needs assessment to evaluate flexibility needs for unexpected demand variations, RES generation, or outages.
• Contribute to data preparation and report drafting processes, ensuring consistency with other studies such as the 10-year Adequacy and Flexibility study and the NCC Summer Outlooks.
• Ensure synergies in tool and methodological developments between indicators for FNA and Summer Outlooks.
• Implement EDMR FNA methodological requirements into concrete and quantified indicators.
• Use and improve tools in R/Python/VBA/Excel to efficiently extract hourly outputs from simulation tools.
• Critically analyze hourly data, including residual load time series and economic dispatch outputs.
• Calculate relevant statistics for RES integration, ramping needs, and short-term needs.
• Prepare visuals to present and analyze results following the EMDR FNA methodology.

Requirements:

• Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
• Fluency in French or Dutch, and English.
• Proficiency in R or Python (must-have).
• Proficiency in Excel (must-have).
• Knowledge of VBA (nice to have).
• Familiarity with ANTARES, particularly the input/output interface and general knowledge of economic dispatch tools (nice to have).
